This story was submitted to the People鈥檚 War site by Anastasia Travers from WM CSV Action Desk on behalf of Dennis Smith and has been added to the site with his permission. Dennis Smith fully understands the sites terms and conditions.

I lived in Church Road by shops behind the cricket ground. Hob Mob school was bombed, so I was off school for a year! Guns were on the recreation ground which was hit by a bomb. One man missing and one leg of another man was found. They put this in with another fella, so he went off with 3 legs in his coffin. We used to get a trolleybus into the city and one day we saw a german aircraft shooting down a barrage balloon. My sister was coming down Coventry road one day and the flames were joining across the road and the shops were on fire.
