A memory comes back after watching to-day's flyover. Does anyone else remember the 2 Spitfires that collided over Lincoln one light summer evening. I can still see one of the pilots parachuting to safety but at least 2 people were killed when one of the planes landed on a garage down the south end of the city.
Then there was a Lancaster bomber that crashed after limping back from a raid and didn't quite reach its airfield.Instead it crashed on a house killing a 12 year old girl. I was about 9 and rowing on a boating lake not far away. Lincoln knew alot about aeroplanes and we had alot of air-raid warnings but not very many actual raids.
We moved to London on Jan 1st 45 so got the end of the V-bombs. I really understood fear then!
