The Anderson shelter at Chester-Le-Street wasn't used during air raids, instead the family sat round the kitchen table. This was after being bombed out of a house a year before.
During one raid a bomb was dropped at the top of the road in the centre of a junction. It exploded causing no harm to anybody except for my Grandma's tounge that she bit through fright. This was in the countryside showing that no one was safe.
