One day when my father was in the garden he noticed a move ment and looking up saw a doodlebug falling down towards him. He said he just stood petrified, when a gust of wind altered the direction and he called out to my mother duck; when the explosion occurred. The front door came down the hall and the rear door flew off and pinned him against the fence. My brother had been upstairs in his cot, but brought down when the sirens had sounded and was in the Morrison shelter. When they went upstairs the windows had shattered and his cot clothes had been torn to pieces. If he had still been there he almost certainly would have been killed.
