In 1940 aged 9, I went to school at Sparrowfarm Road Junior School. I remember going to school one morning to be met outside the school by teachers saying the school had been bombed and we were to go home and would be contacted later. It transpired that we had an unexploded bomb in the school and nobody was allowed back for at least a month - the school organised the pupils to go to various teachers houses to be taught - I remember going to one teacher's house and we played cards all the time, I don;t think I learnt much at all.
