Towards the end of the War, I became a Schoolboy Christmas Postman. Weeks before Christmas and both Christmas/Boxing Day. Starting at 4.0am. Sorting the Mail for my Delivery area, then making delivery by Bicyle (if one was available. On completion, returning and empty Letter Boxes. Most times assisted on the Horsebox, delivering Parcels. Finish late in the Afternoon. I was a Schoolboy Postman for two Christmas Periods.
Other memories of the K.O.S.B HEADQUARTERS. Returning from Dunkirk and billeted in Conservative Club at Wellington,Somerset. We lived on the Third Floor and my Mother was the Stewardes and acting Secretary of the men only Club. With my Father in the R.A.F. and the Secretary in the Army. Their were times of music
very early in the morning of one sole Bagpiper playng and walking on our Lawn. When they left at a later dated. The Full Bagpipers and Drums played a farewell in the High St.
These were replaced by the Sergents Mess of the R.A.S.C. Memories of one record played about one thousand times THE DONKEYS SERENADE by Allan Jones.
