Singapore Year: 1941
It was a long hot stuffy day as A.E Clarke born and bred in Birmingham, Bert to his friends, a 25 year old soldier carried sixty pounds in weight a pack containing his 12.5mm machine gun, a few grenades and rifles in stifling hot weather. Bert was marching 18 Miles south of river Irrawadi which runs through to Rangoon and on to Mandalay where the Japanese were to be located. Bert was led by a 14 year old native boy from the village in order to accept the surrender of a Japanese camp after which the Japanese were sent on a boat to Singapore for 5 weeks. The Japnese had tried to take over Java, Sumatra from the intimidating Dutch, the Japanese were set free by the amazing A.E Clarke, who sent them to Kualalumpa. (Mission Accomplished!)
Burma
A.E Clarke did so well fighting and saving people in Burma, as a recognition for his wonderful achievment, he was awarded 2 dispatches, his first one in Burma for the siege of Imphal on March 1944 because when the Japenese were in control,he found three unexperienced men on patrol that had been shot 2 of which were dead and one seriously wounded, this great man A.E Clarke carried the badly wounded man too saftey he carried him on a rain coat for 14 hours down a hill and back up one. This shows this man is surely one of ourall time greats.
