At the end of part IV, George and his comrades had left for Mersa Matru.....
Jun 27th
Moved East across desert, bombs dropped and one plane brought down (Wellington Bomber) in flames. Jerry tanks three quarters of a mile away.
Jun 28th
Continued East, destination unknown. One of our planes brought down. 12 noon, more bombs dropped. Jerry has been on our tail most of the way.
Jun 29th
Moved again West for 7 miles and the ground very bad, mostly rock. 6pm Jerry tanks 500 yards away and our tanks attacked them and we moved East again, travelled until 3am.
Jun 30th
Moved again 4.30am - almost left behind. Still going due East. We are all getting very tired now through loss of sleep, old Megan doing well.
July 1st
Had breakfast and ready to move. Tanks and guns moved into our camp. Things don't look too good for us now.
Jul 2nd
Still in the same camp, nothing at all happened today. Tanks and guns moved up. Done no work now for 6 days, looks like rain - had a little last night.
Jul 3rd
Recieved word to return to my own Sec., now awaiting official confirmation. Got this at 1pm. Started back at 1.30pm, arrived back at Hammon just in time to see two of our planes brought down.
Jul 21st
Left Hammon at 6am for El Imazid St.
Jul 23rd
Left El Imazid St. for E test point and 13 Corp. metering cable and pole line to Army.
Aug 18th (George's birthday)
Left E test point for Bury El Arab
Aug 19th
Left Bury El Arab for E test point, building 4 miles of pole line.
Aug 22nd
Went into A.D.S. by E test point
Aug 23rd
Left A.D.S> for C.C.S. at Bury El Arab
Aug 24th
Left C.C.S. Bury El Arab by hospital train for 27 general Hospital at El Mahgar
Sep 5th
Left 27 General Hospital by hospital train to Port Said. went aboard hospital boat and sailed to Haifa, arriving at 12 noon Sep 6th. Had tea in Haifa and went by ambulance to 49 General Hospital at Jerusalem.
Sep 8th
Taken out to tea given by the Red Cross and held in the Toc H rooms.
Sep 9th
Taken on a visit to Bethlehem also provided by the Red Cross and then to tea at teh C/S Canteen
Sep 11th
Taken on a visit to Romileyon the road to Haifa, this time it was a Bank manager and we had tea at the Grand Hotel there, lovely country round here, much different to the desert.
Sep 13th
Taken out to tea, this time at a friend's house. Had to sing for our tea here. A good time, plenty of "pips" (officers) at this place.
Sep 15th
Went to free pictures provided by the Red Cross
Sep 16th
Went to another house today, Mr and Mrs Cook; had a good tea but it is a grand change for us to have someone to talk to that is not in the services - it is more homely.

Left 49 General Hospital for 161 transit camp, Jerusalem.
Sep 20th
Left 161 transit Camp for Sarafan
Sep 21st
Left Sarafan for Benjaman Reinforcement Camp
Sep 25th
Left Benjaman for Bose Depot, travelled through lovely country amongst hills and oranges, these we picked if the train stopped near them.
Sep 26th
Arrived at Bose Depot, met a few lads I know and Dr Brock's brother.
Oct 6th
Left Bose Depot for 8 L of C Signals, Alexandria. Arrived same day.
Oct 7th
Posted to Alexandria Signals at Ras-El-Tin, most of our work is in the harbour on cables to the ships.

Unfortuantely, George's diary entries end suddenly here - for some unknown reason. It is not known whether George lived on or met an untimely fate, and if anyone reading this can supply any further information on George Townson, it would be appreciated if they would leave a message for us.
