i will always remember the night coventry city was hit,it was the biggest yet,i was 3 years old but can remember it so clearly,we where living in a small 3 bedroom house no bathroom and the toilet was outside,at that time there was my father ,mother and my elder brother jack,we had already spent many nights in a damp dark shelter, which was situated in hipswell highway wyken, this night my father said enough is enough mother we are running no more we will stay in our home ,if one goes we all go together, so with that we hid under our kitchen table until the raid was over.a few years later when i was older my father told that a bomb had landed in the street next to us "oldham ave" but he said it wasnt our turn to go ,hes now pass on but i can still hear his words on that terrible night when hitler tried to destroy coventry.
