My son Richard was born in 1941 when fresh fruit was scarce. We used to be able to get currants, raisins and other dried fruit as part of our rations. When Richard was first given a banana, he didn't like it at all. To this day he still prefers dried fruit!
Also, because we had to keep black-out covering over the windows, he found it difficult to sleep without them when years later they weren't needed.
