My name is Ivy, I was about 3 when the war started, and we lived in London. The name of our road was London Road. Dad was in the forces (he was a cook), so mum was ever so worried. We were bombed out and had to go and live with my Auntie. She gave us two rooms.
My Auntie didn’t have any children, and didn’t much like having to put us up, but mum and I made the best of it. Auntie’s house had a cellar, so when the siren sounded we would go down there.
Life must have been hard for my mum, everything was rationed, so she made most of my clothes, knitted and renovated. Food was also rationed, but she was a good cook, so I don’t remember being hungry.
I was nine when the war ended and dad came home. We eventually found another house. Everyone had street parties which seemed to last for days.
