I remember Neville Chamberlain's announcement of war. My dad built an Anderson Shelter in the garden, it was damp and dark.
English and German fighter planes would fly overhear.
Even though the schools closed down we were taught in people's homes.
I was a twin and my mother wouldn't evacuate us, she said that if we were doing to die we might as well do it in our own home.
my father was badly injured during the war. He worked during the day and was a fire watcher at night. He would go on top of buildings and look out for incediary's and stuff.
We spent a lot of time in the shelters, almost every night, because we lived in an industrial area.
