My father,a policeman, collected some unexploded German inciendary bombs at the time of the Greenock Blitz. He emptied the powder from them and gave them to friends as souvenirs. Wee Arthur was puzzled as to how effective the fin was in keeping the bomb upright when dropping. I took it out to the drying green and threw it up as high as I could and it came down as designed. Unknown to me was that it still had a detonator which went off with a bang giving me such a fright that I thought I was a gonner.
