This story was submitted to the People's War site by a volunteer from Finedon Mulso C of E Junior School on behalf of Thomas Davies and has been added to the site with his widow's permission. Margaret Catley fully understands the site's terms and conditions.

In 1944 Granddad Tom was captured by the German army. On the way to the farm where he was taken as a prisoner of war to work, his weapons were confiscated and he played his favourite tune on his harmonica. Every day he was made to get water from the well. One day two children came up to him and started to talk to him. Their mum caught them and told them to get away. Granddad Tom got really mad and dropped the bucket down the well!
