It was August 1944 and I was eight years old.I was on holiday with my aunt in Williams Road, Southall in Middlesex.Early one afternoon the air raid warning sounded which didn't cause much alarm as we were well used to it by now.My aunt suggested we get into the morrison shelter in the living room. Immediately there was a terrific noise and the whole house appeared to shake. All the windows ceilings and doors were blown out. It was a V1 roket(dodlebug)that had come down in the next street,Regina Road.
We went throgh the front door which was now laying in the hall. All the streets around were littered with rubble and broken glass.
I was taken to my Grandmothers house on the other side of Southall as my aunts house was no longer habitable. I can not remember if there were any further raids that night but I remember sleeping in the Anderson shelter in the garden which was dark damp and cold. The next day, the holiday now over, I was taken home.
