At both Canterbury Road School 1935 - 1941 and Colchester Royal Grammar School 1941-1945 air raid shelters were provided.

We never used any at any time.

Classes at Colchester Royal Grammar School were often and delightedly interrupted by noise of a USAAF take offs from Boxted/Wormingford airfields 1944-1945 as we were directly under the flightpath. Radial engines are/were very noisy.
