My father remembered the Butterfly bombs that fell over Ransomes and Rapiers (the Ipswich Engineering Works). These canisters had tops that formed into parachutes and spread over a wide area. They exploded when they were touched. After one heavy raid they ended up killing six workers.

My husband got a job with the Post Office towards the end of the war. One of his tasks was to deliver telegrams with sad news about their loved ones to people.
