Oldham had quite a few bombs. December 1944 a flying bomb which ripped through two rows of houses killing quite a few people. My next door neighbours had three people killed.

I was conscripted for munitions and worked three years working on shells at Platt Brothers.

We worked one month on days and one month on nights. We used to finish work at 5.30pm on Saturday and go to work again on Sunday at 8pm. My dad worked very long hours at another branch of Platts.

Sometimes we never saw him at all.
