Lt James Vandalle Fulton of HMS Goodall

Lieutenant Commander James Vandalle Fulton of the RNVR served on the HMS Goodall on convoy escort duty at the entrance to the Kola inlet, seven miles from Murmansk in Northern Russia. A pack of u-boats had gathered to attack the homeward bound convoy RA66. Three of the German submarines were found and attacked by escort frigates and corvettes. U387 and U286 were sunk. U968 however hit the Goodall destroying the bridge and shooting the bow off. Only 44 survived from the 156 crew. Lt Fulton was killed. He had previously lost his brother Major Robin Waterston Fulton, Royal Artillery, who was killed in action in North Africa on 12th April 1943
