This story was submitted to the People's War site by a volunteer from 大象传媒 Radio Cambridgeshire on behalf of Mrs Olive Parker and has been added to the site with her permission. Mrs Olive Parker fully understands the site's terms and conditions.

I came back home with my husband after the war was over and found a doodle bug had come across the road and come right upstairs into our house. We could not get in our house.

We could not stay there that night so we went to a friend's house not far away. We had to show the builder what had happened so he could see what needed to be done to make it right. We stayed with our friends until it was repaired. It took months! We were glad to be able to get back into our house.
