99 (Gunnery Leader) Course, Central Gunnery School, Catfoss 04/06/45 to 29/06/45 The following account is best to put into context by reading my story listed under: Irene M M Sutcliffe:
My future husband Bill was selected as aircrew and after training as a Wireless Operator/Air Gunner and further OTU training in the Middle East and Radar training at RAF Chivenor, he was posted to RAF Langham in Norfolk. In June 1945 he was selected with other Squadron candidates, to train as a 鈥淕unnery Leader鈥. This role was intended to create improved Gunnery technique as aircraft would be commanded or controlled by a single 鈥渓eader鈥 during an attack. CGS was run by 鈥淪ailor鈥 Malan who later went on to become a famous politician in South Africa.
