Two of my Granda's brothers fought in the second worlod war. My Great Uncle Tom Marquis and my Great Uncle Ken Marquis. My Great Uncle Tom was a Major in the Royal Engineers and was a prisoner of War in a German camp from which he escaped. His family knew that he was a prisoner because it was announced on the radio by Lord Haw Haw. My Great Uncle Ken was in the Dorset regiment and was a captain. Also my Great Granda who was my Grandma's dad fought in the war and was in the Royal Marines.
