I was evacuated when i was twelve years old from my home in Byker to a place in Norththuberland called Chatton. After i had been away for six months my mother said i could come home as no bombs had dropped.I went home and after my tea i heard a loud bang,i knew straight away that it was a bomb. That was the first bomb it had hit the flour mill in Gateshead. Two other places that got bombed were the Apollo cinema on Sheilds Road, and the Blue Bell at the top of Sheilds road.I thought that i would have been safer staying in Chappton. If you went into a bomb shelter you had to take all your own things like your bedding your own food and water and any other essentials that you needed. There was a tunnel under Byker bridge and people that didn't have a shelter went and slept under there more and more people went and every one started to get to no each other, and people used to bring music to listen to but you had to have your own space but you were not allowed to take other peoples spaces.
