My Grandfather was on the Gothic Line in Florence Italy. He was in the Royal Scots Reg,2nd BN and was a private. His service No 3052010,age 36 he died on 19th September 1944,was killed by a mortar. His grave is in Florence War Cemetry. He left behind a wife and 3 children, his wife met a Czech soldier who she nearly married and who had lost his wife and daughter. When my grandmother was about to go to Czechoslovakia with him,his wife and daughter were found so he left and as he was going my grandmother gave him a fur coat to give to his wife. His name was Joseph our family lost touch with him, they use to have letters and cards from him but then they stopped we wonder what happened to him. My family liked him very much.
