Filming "The Captive Heart" at Westerlink (Germany) five weeks after hostilities ended, for six weeks, starring Sir Michael Redrave, Jack Warner, Gordon Jackson and many others. I was posted in 1945 to Palestine util demobilised. We had no entertainment therfore formed a concert party with the Royal Ulster Rifles Dance Band. I performed magic and illusions at Sarafand until demobbed - finished as sergeant 1947.
Went to the labour exchange looking for work July 1947, only to be asked what I had been doing for four and half years. On being asked what I had trained for I replied "To kill people". I joined London Transport September 1947 as a porter at King's Cross. Served up until 1987 in many grades from porter, signalman, foreman, inspector up to Senor Station Master. Dealt with 52 suicides, floods, rail accidents, five major fires, given 15 commendations and awarded the Royal Humane Society's Bravery Certficate. Retired through medical reasons in 1987.
