My story is about my father Brian Fisher, he was a serving naval officer at the beginning of the war, he spent the whole of the war on minesweepers and mine layers. During the whole course of the war he served as a navigator. At one time his ship was blown up with half of the crew killed. He was lucky he still had hold of his wooden navigating table, which he was able to use as a raft.
He was one of those that played a key part in the Normandy D-Day invasion, he was the navigator on the leading frigate the HMS Frobisher, that lead the invasion. 33 years later he was honoured when he was awarded the croix de guerre by the French.
Sadly he is not alive anymore.
Dictated bt Lyn Faulkner, to Ian Nutley.
