My twin sister and I were born in 1940. We lived with my mother,grandmother and aunt in Bishop Auckland. My father was serving with the RAF, my Aunt's husband (my Uncle Martin)was in the Army and my unmarried Uncle John was at working at Bletchley Park. So,normally, there were 3 women in the house and no men were around.
On one rare occasion, all three must have been at home together. I can vividly remember being under the dining room table with my twin sister, both of us in upturned stools so that we couldn't run away as an air raid was imminent. I was fascinated by the rare site of men's trouser legs and can recall to this day, the different feel of the army, airforce and flannel civilian trousers of these strange creature
