My father worked at the Chatham Dockyard and he liked his routine. He worked in the Naval boat store. He got stuff out the stores when things were needed. He couldn鈥檛 fight as he was injured in the First World War. But he loved his job down the yard. I was 16 when the war started. I used to bring Dad lunch every Sunday. It was a full roast in a basket. We lived near the cemetery and I took the bus up to him. I got off it one day and the siren started and I thought `what would dad want me to do now- go home or take his lunch`. So I took his dinner as usual!
