‘The War Savings Campaign’ Norman Harper

The War Savings Campaign began in November, 1939. It was stimulated by special national efforts such as War Weapons Weeks and Warships Weeks, exhibitions and Films, and later Wings for Victory Weeks and Salute the Soldier Weeks. Warships weeks, held between October 1941 and March 1942 in 1200 savings areas produced about £400 million. London raised nearly £150 million. The National Savings Committee under the presidency of Lord Kindersley spurred on the public to amazing results and communities competed with one another in providing the biggest totals.
