I was evacuated in 1939 from Aston to Leamington Spa. The family which took me in coincidentally had the same surname as me and the mom of the family was heavily pregnant. When she gave birth, she named the baby Bernard after me.

21 years later I was on holiday in Benidorm and my name was announced over the P.A. system, the hotel asked Mr. Bernard Golding to report to reception. When I arrived there, there was another younger man there. He said his name was also Bernard Golding. It turned out that he was the baby boy of the family I had been evacuated to!

This story was submitted to the People鈥檚 War site by Claire Halliwell from WM CSV Action Desk on behalf of Bernard Golding and has been added to the site with his permission. Bernard Golding fully understands the sites terms and conditions.
