Cynthia Omara
I was 10 years old when war began. I was living with my mother and father in Surrey. One of the worst parts about living in Surrey was when I went to school and the air raid went, we all had to march to the church and hide under it for safety.
Just two miles away from where I lived there was an ammunition factory in the middle of a forest. (When I visited a couple of years back the ammunition factory was still there locked up).
When I was 10 years old I was outside and I could see a parachute coming down, but it was quite lucky as I only lived three doors away from a policeman. I went to his house, knocked on the door and told him about this parachute, but he told me to stop telling stories. Then he saw it for himself. They caught the parachutist.
I moved to Ipswich to stay with my grandparents. There were some very bad bombs in Ipswich. My grandparents had a P.O.W. working on farms in the area. My cousin married one.
