This story is about five people from Luton who worked for an entertainment organisation called ENSA. Their names were:
Norman Sinfield, he was a comedian. Brenda Bartina (pianist and accordianist), Yatsen was a conjurer, Irene Foster was a soprano and Pearl who was a dancer. All five toured a week at a time all over the country. On May 28th 1944 it was Pearl's 18th birthday. Shortly afterwards she was told to do a show for some of our boys who hadn't been out of camp for a week they were getting very restless.
They had been told not to speak to anyone about this little meeting, it was all very "hush hush". So they had to meet a despatch rider at a certain place. When they got there, there were people from all around the world including: Canadians, Australians and Poles. All the soldiers enjoyed the show. After the show they were invited to the Officers Mess belonging to the big house. All the top brass was there, they had never seen so many Brigadiers in all their time in ENSA. The despatch driver drove them back through the gates.
They thought something big was going to happen and in a few days it was 'D'DAY!
