He started out on the first Chindit expedition of 1943 lead by Orde Wingate, I am unsure of the objective of this mission but in the dense jungle the columns became separated and my Great Grandfather was separated with a few comrades. They took shelter in a village and the locals hid them from the Japanese but eventually the villages tired of the fighting and gave their position away to a Japanese patrol. They ended up in Rangoon POW camp where he died of dysentry on the 13/04/44 his brother Herbert was in the same camp and died on the 26/07/44. There was also a third brother, Walter, who was killed testing an aircraft in 1942.
