If you can keep yourself from going crackers
With all the things you are advised to do;
When Hitler sends his crazy gang attackers,
With squibs and bombs to put the wind up you.
If you can hear the horrid wailing warning
Without a fearful flutter in your breast,
If you can sleep in Shelters till the morning
And never feel washed out for want of rest.
If you can praise the blackout when you stumble
Nor curse it when you give your toe a stub
If you can draw your rations and not grumble
Nor moan about the beastly rotten grub.
If you can keep depression down to zero
And view it all as just a bit of fun,
Then you may call yourself a hero.
And what's more you'll be the only one.
