I was only five, and I lived with my Gran, she never went out, but this particular night the bombing was so bad that she becane frightened and we walked down three flights of stairs and went outside, the only two people about. It was just red skys and just like daylight, we walked to Wapping tube station where an ARP warden got hold of my gran and pulled her into the shelter. I have never forgotten this the lights, bangs and the red sky.
