Story:
John Harrison was a great hero who fought in WW1 as well as WW2. It was 1939 when he went off to fight in Germany to help the British. He also was tuck prisoner in Italy and transferred to a German prisoner war camp. While in the prisoner war camp John Harrison learnt how to cook and was put in charge of what the other prisoners got to eat.
His regiment was in the DLI.During the war, he became a seargent and recieved lots of medals.
He regularly sent post cards and money to his family followed by trinkets. He carried injuries from the war through to death.
To add to this, Elsie Harrison worked in the Munnitions Factory at Newton'aycliffe.
When he came home, a huge celebration was needed. He bumped in to an old friend and neighbour Jack Coxon. It was great to see them walking down Richie's Bank just glad to be home and both safe and sound!
Great memories!
Story told by John Harrison's son Stanley Harrison!
