I remeber it well, when the bomb dropped in Pwlltrap. It was when the Germans wanted to bomb Pendine. We could hear the plane approach and fly over the house. Going to the window and watching the search lights flashing across the sky. The plane followed the car lights as they returned from the 'Cymanfa Ganu' (Choral Singing session) in Mary's Chapel in order to escape. To make a quick get away the plane dropped the bomb off at Pwlltrap. The following day, Mummy, Mrs Hughes and us children went to have a look at the big hole, the plane hadn't been that far away from Pendine afterall.
****
Cofiaf yn dda am yr amser pan syrthiodd bom ym Mhwlltrap.'Roedd yr Almaenwyr eisiau bomio Pentywyn[Pendine].Dyma clywed yr awyren yn hedfan dros y ty.Mynd i'r ffenestr a gweld y "search lights" yn flachio ar draws yr awyr. Dilyn goleuadau'r ceir yn dychwelid o Gymanfa Ganu yng Nghapel Mair wnaeth yr awyren.Er mwyn dianc yn ddiogel, dyma gollwng y bom tu allan i Pwlltrap.Y diwrnod nesa' dyma mami,Mrs Hughes a ni'r plant yn mynd i weld y twll anferth.'Roedd yr awyren ddim yn bell iawn o Bentywyn wedi'r cwbl.
