Each day ended with story times often made up by nurses. It was very hard and tiring work and the nurses in training had lectures, sometimes at the other nurseries and studying to do. It was a two year training with the Nursery Nurses Diploma as a qualification at the end, when you received your diploma鈥檚 and a badge. After work we had to do regular war work such as fire watching, Red Cross work where we manned the ARP post at the hospital or escorted convalescing patients from the RAF hospital at Rauceby to their homes. This was at weekends and could entail long journeys in the blackout. The Rotary Club ran a ferry service by car from the hospital to the station. There was other war work too, Nursery uniform was supplied but we gave up some of our clothing coupons
