I used to work in the home guard. My husband was deployed for 3 years. My husband used to come home every three months for a month's leave.I was always sad to see him go.

We were bombed out of our home on St. Mary's Street. We used to go across the street for shelter when there was a shelter. Once a fire bomb came right into the cellar. We got out just in time - we lost each other for a short time, my husband came looking for me.

I remember we never had time to cook anything.

My father-in-law and sister-in-law lived around the corner. During the raids I would go there when I could. I felt very safe.
