My sister, brother and myself were playing around by a river, running between Penzance and Newlyn on a lovely sunny morning, 01.09.42 or 43. Between playing around we watched the Minesweeper, going up & back on Mount's Bay sweeping for mines about two and a half miles out. All of a sudden there was a tremendous bang and water shot about 100 feet above the ship. It was not long before she started sinking and the last to go under was her stern. We were all well shook up and started to make our way back home. Then we saw small motor boats coming out from Penzance & Newlyn to search for survivors, I don't know if there were any. The ship was called the Royals and seven men are buried in Penzance cemetary. I have paid my respects to them many times and will never forget them. God Bless Them.
