My Dear Audrey,
All that has happened during the last two weeks is too bloody to write here. I think that I had better just mention my adventures after landing at Margate. Perhaps I had better tell you of my views on this war. It will not last much longer and a few weeks will see us on the way to victory. German youths 17-20 yrs are being killed in thousands.
When we landed at Margate 3.30pm Tuesday a huge crowd cheered us and gave us food and cigarettes, smokes we had with us in hundreds because we picked packets up off the battlefield, or at least they were there within an hour afterwards but food we had had none for 3 days. On the train we stayed in the station over night we had more and more food and at the same time we could still see Dunkirk burning across the sea. Wednesday morning we travelled to this camp and we are all being re equipped with clothing etc; All I have is my rifle and your photograph and a letter to you which I wrote a month or two ago. On the train I could only send one telegraph but I sent one to mother today and of course phoned you.
Has Bill got out ok? The police had a rough time so I am just wondering how he is.
Now I must catch this post and I also have a lot to do so I must close now.
All my love,
Arthur xxxx
The long letter went through two weeks action war until I could post it.
