Gladys was fourteen when World War two started.
She was nineteen when the World War two ended. She did not go to the air raid shelters because she went to her coal bunker.Glady`s Coal bunker was small but warm and it protected them from the bombs. They would sit on their chairs, eat food and go to sleep. When the air raids were over, they would go back into their houses and look out at the bombed streets and houses.
As told to Craig McCallum
Gladys had an uncle called James. Whilst he was fighting in the war a nasty German soldier sneaked up behind him and shot him in the area near his heart. James always carried a bible in his pocket. He was very glad that day that he had his bible in his pocket.when he got shot, the bible stopped the bullet from going right through and damaging his heart or maybe even killing him.
As told to Stephen Hughes
