After my basic training, I was posted to Huddersfield Technical College to do a course to train as a staff secretary. I was postd to Chilwell COD attached to R.A.O.C clerical staff in spares accounting.
I was rose to the position of chief clerk to a Colonel.
From there I was posted to Gotham, to re-organise an office dealing with Tanks and wadings modification equipment.
These modifications were assembled in the workshop under a DTD ot DME number.
We dealt directly with units and B.O.D overseas.
I dealt directly with the director of tank design & director of motorised transport.
As the war was drawing to a close, the civilian firm wanted there depot back. So we were posted to Bicester lock, stock and barrel and given a few sheds there. We then had to get the spares ready for disposal. (ferrous and non ferrous)Each spare part, including every nut and bolt was listed.
By this time I was staff sargeant and in overall charge of the office.
