The day war was declared on September 3rd, it was my 15th birthday. Life changed for everyone. I had started working on a Hairdressing Apprenticeship . My father was called up in the army to go abroad. My mother was a Post Woman and my brother was only eleven years old.
I was called up as Hairdressing wasn't essential work. I went to Mullards at Morden assembling valves. After a while I found this work not for me. Then I went on the buses as a Conductress and found this a lot better. Fortunately our family all came through the war, so we were very grateful, after all the bombs that went around near us.
