I was 10 years old. I remember a neighbour two doors away who was a warden. He must have kicked an incendiary bomb - he blew his foot off and was on crutches for a month.
I do remember walking down the street and thinking I can't take much more of this.
Fortunately schools were closed but we went to other people's homes to learn, which was good because we were very tired.
