Down some of the roads in Worthing that had high sides, the Home Guard dug in barrels of some sort of explosive (I don't know what) that could be fired on if the German's invaded and tried to get down those roads. During the bombing the Germans also dropped mines by parachute, which often did more damage than the bombs. They could have been after the 'Drill Hall’, which was about 2 miles away where all the tanks were kept.
