"This story was submitted to the People's War site by a volunteer from Gloucester on behalf of Mrs Hall from Gloucester and has been added to the site with her permission. Mrs Hall fully understands the site's terms and conditions".

About November 11th 1946, people were assembled at the Cenotaph. Princess Elizabeth was in her ATS Uniform and at the time, I was with my friends, standing overlooking the ceremony. The day was extremely dull and overcast, but the crowd stood there absolutely amazed, as the Marine Buglers started the Reveille, when all of a sudden the clouds parted and a silver shaft of light shone through illuminating the Marine Buglers and the light stayed there and faded as the last post came to an end. The sky then seemed to close back to the gloom. The people were left open mouthed.
