I had been called up when I was nearly twenty to the 15th Scottish Reconnaisance. I had been living in 69 Priory Road, Tonbridge. We'd been through France and Holland where we spent Christmas 1944.
We went back into Belgium and eventually crossed the Rhine into Germany.
I was either lucky or unlucky; I caught jaundice and was sent to hospital. The rest of the regiment was sent on and alot were wiped out. It was a bit of a shock because I should have been there.
We were earmarked to go to the Far East, but they dropped the bomb, so we didn't have to go.
That wasn't good for the people there but they would have killed us and it saved thousands of lives.
