I was born on 26 July, 1943 so this is a story that my mother told me. She said that
every time she thought about it she went old!

I was a baby in my pram out in the front garden of our house in Brangbourne Road Bromley in Kent. The siren went and my mother grabbed me and although we had an air raid shelter in the back garden she went under the stairs, and stayed there throughout the attack.

When the all-clear sounded she realised that the roof of our house had been completely blown off and a massive amount of damage had been caused in our road. She went out into the front garden and saw the pram still standing and thought that it had withstood the blast very well - until she went to touch it and it completely
disintegrated. It was a good job she removed me quickly from my pram.
