I was in the Royal Signals, attached to the 7th Medium Artillery Regiment part of 30 Corps and at the end of the Second World War I was stationed just out side Hamburg.

On May 7th which was proclaimed Victory in Europe Day to enable all ranks to hear the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, give his famous broadcast, I was asked by my Signals CO to provide four wireless sets, one at each corner of the parade ground and at a given signal all sets were tuned in to the Prime Minister where all the immediate personnel were on parade to hear this broadcast.
My CO afterwards congratulated me on a good job.
The rest of the day was spent with general celebrations.
